About my work :
Nature is a reservoir of energy from which I discover ideas, systems, structures and laws. These elements inspire me because they depict Nature in a constant evolution whose organic qualities are shown in symmetrical structures.
Ernst Haeckel once wrote; “symmetry, far from diminishing the virtues of the accidental and the amorphous, on the contrary, can strengthen their suggestiveness because it encourages the perception of organic forms of which it constitutes an almost universal feature."
This idea hearkens back to the concept of a constantly evolving nature and its fundamental morphogenetic principles.
The results of these principles of mutation have given substance to species with surprising appearances that continually fascinate. They have evolved by establishing relationships of forms, colours and contrasts in order to adapt to survive and to thrive and to assert their own identity. Man is a part of this nature, that is why we instinctively appreciate the properties of symmetry and colours. They influence us because we always try to understand them.
I re-appropriate these natural elements to create abstract compositions using techniques like watercolour and monoprinting. By using processes that are naturally opposed, I question the ambivalence of textures within a composition. Moreover, by establishing new relationships of forms, symmetry and colours, I translate nature's logic into a pictorial language obtained by a “back-and-forth” relationship within the processes.
Thus my compositions are refined to essential shapes to obtain a powerful and extensive structure. This allows me to create strokes that express vitality and refer to the germinative power of plant species. I play with the polymorphic properties of these forms and in the simplicity of their treatment, they tend to move away from this repertoire and convert into abstract representations.
Eventually they extricate themselves from any context by creating intrinsic, dynamic relationships of forms, colours and materials.
My methods seek to generate images of beauty which can battle and contrast with our own reality, which is not necessarily so.
